GEYSER LOAD MANAGEMENT FOR RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENTS
We offer property developers a solution to achieving SANS compliance and saving on capital costs, with the added benefit of offering buyers cheaper, cleaner energy.
Our PV Smart geyser solution combines solar energy with automated load management services (hot water geyser controls) to enable developers to achieve the SANS10400 XA-2 standard whilst saving on CAPEX.
Hot water quality is not compromised as smart geyser software ensures that minimum standards are maintained for each resident’s water usage.
Save up to 3 times more by utilising load management services with our solar services.
Market your developments as leaders in sustainable and environmentally friendly living.
Up to 40% of a development’s energy can now be supplied with solar PV (no batteries).
Contribute to SANS and EDGE certification, while lowering CAPEX.
SOLAR ENERGY + LOAD MANAGEMENT = SANS COMPLIANCE, WITH LESS CAPEX
* While we provide solar PV with zero CAPEX required, the only cost involved is for the installation and supply of the load management controls.
“When viewed at system-level, a given amount of money will produce better environmental and financial performance if spent on grid-tied rooftop PV powering resistance geysers, than if it were spent on alternative hot water heating technologies.”
Warren Gray, Mechanical Engineer at Solid Green Consulting
“Kikuyu and The Whisken are targeting EDGE certification and will deliver significant energy savings to residents who ‘live smart’ in their homes through a range of practical solutions which contribute towards achieving a minimum of 20% savings in the predicted energy and water consumption of the homes. In addition to this a 20% reduction in the embodied energy of the materials used in construction will result in a reduced environmental impact. Once certified these projects will be amongst the first EDGE certified projects to include solar PV technology, offering energy savings benefits to residents and setting an exciting trend in green homes.”
Grahame Cruickshanks, Managing Executive: Residential at Green Building Council South Africa
“We are continually tailoring our developments to match market demands, offering innovations in lifestyle, convenience and energy efficiency. The addition of solar power will save residents on their monthly electricity bill which is of utmost importance considering the rising cost of living. We are proud to be leading the way in driving green initiatives for developments like ours. This is clearly a concept that we will look to roll out to select future developments.”

A: PV Smart together with our solar energy offering provides a saving on capital costs that would be spent to meet SANS standards. You achieve compliance at a lower cost, with the added benefit of providing cheaper, cleaner energy to buyers.
A: Residential developments are required by law to meet the SANS10400 XA-2 standard which regulates how hot water should be heated. SANS standards are prescriptive by nature therefore compliance can be achieved by submitting a rational assessment outlining how you intend to meet these objectives. SANS standards can be met if enough solar energy is generated to heat hot water.
A: Geyser switches are monitored and managed by software and cannot be controlled by residents. The geyser controller ensures that minimum water temperatures are constantly maintained. Power to the geyser may be controlled by each resident’s distribution board.
A: The geyser controller prioritises solar energy to heat hot water during the day with grid energy being readily available to maintain minimum water temperatures at night or in the event of a cloudy day.
A: SolarAfrica provides solar PV with zero CAPEX required, the only cost to you is for the installation of PV Smart. A free savings assessment can be prepared on request detailing these costs.
A: No, PV Smart constantly manages the time and temperature of hot water heating. Our PV Smart controller ensures that minimum standards are maintained for each resident’s water usage without negatively impacting them.
A: The equipment used to supply solar energy is owned by SolarAfrica and maintained by one of our SolarAfrica certified partners for the duration of the contract.
A: If you are developing a residential sectional title complex with a minimum of 50 units or more, then PV Smart is the right solution for you. Each outcome is dependent on bulk municipal rates, location, and development design.
A: No, PV Smart can only be used together with our solar energy solution.
A: You are able to generate greater savings by using solar energy with PV Smart and then save on capital costs while meeting all SANS requirements. With solar energy providing up to 40% of a development’s energy requirement, savings on electricity bills can be generated for body corporates. These savings are either retained by the body corporate or passed onto residents.
